Language and transformation at Stellenbosch University – critically rethinking the language policy at Stellenbosch University now
While most people support the idea of multilingualism, its application in South African higher education remains a complex and challenging issue. Due to its former close association with nationalism and whiteness, it is especially the place of Afrikaans that is highly controversial. At a time when the language policy of Stellenbosch University is questioned in the light of its effect on equity and access, it is an opportune moment to debate the policy issues in the light of their pedagogical, contextual and identity dimensions.
