Titel/Title : Adding competition effects to the Measurement of Job Accessibility in Cape Town Metro
Tyd/Time : 13:00 – 14:00, Friday 21st of April 2023
Plek/Location : MS Teams and VDS 3022
Opsomming/Abstract:
Traditional spatial accessibility measures often simply add up job opportunities within a given distance thereby not taking any competition effect into account. On the other end of the spectrum sits the geographical 'gravity' model which is all about dealing with competition, but requires actual local historic travel data for both calibration and choice of distance decay function. Data which is often not available. Today's presentation is about the Pressure (by competition) Map Principles which uses the combination of two tradional accessibility measures to simulate competition and even may result in the identication of local shortage or abundance of jobs (or opportunities in general). Preliminary results will be shown based on data from the research of Jacomien van der Merwe.
