It
is the primary belief of the CSC that students' learning and living
environments should be integrated and should not function separately. As
such, residences and PSOs are part of the ResEd or cluster system that
drive these environments. Four new staff members have recently been
appointed to assist in achieving this goal.
Lisinda
de Jager (left), who previously worked in the PSO Office at CSC, is now
taking on the position of ResEd coordinator of the Rubix cluster and
residence head of Heemstede residence. Njabulo Maphumulo (middle) has
joined Stellenbosch University for the first time and forms part of the
CSC team on Tygerberg campus, as the ResEd coordinator of TygerMaties
cluster and residence head of Hippocrates residence. Monica du Toit
(right), from SU's Human Resources Division, is the new ResEd
coordinator for Victoria cluster and residence head of Monica and
Harmonie residences. Enos Lekala is welcomed as Listen, Live and Learn
(LLL) community coordinator and residence head of Huis Russel Botman
House, a senior living space.
The
university residences and PSOs are student communities in which
community principles are applied to integrate students' academic and
living environments. The social dimension of community life in
residence, PSOs and the cluster is harnessed to support the SU's
academic mission. In doing so, one of the University's objectives is
pursued, namely to provide students with a university experience in
which the living spaces are an extension of academic life in the
faculties; to establish a university environment that would create a
well-rounded and transformative educational experience for students, in
line with the Vision 2040 and Strategic Framework 2019-2024.
The
aim of the CSC is building a student culture that promotes student
success: a culture in which students not only have pleasant social
experiences, but are also serious about being effective role players
within and beyond South African borders. In line with SU's institutional
objectives, the residences and PSOs, as student communities, are
encouraged to start applying their newly acquired knowledge now already,
both in their communities as well as beyond, in order to make a
difference.
