Improving nutrition across the life course from conception to adulthood is essential for the long-term well-being of families and communities and for successful economic and social advancement. Triple burden of malnutrition in this context refers to undernutrition (stunting, wasting and micronutrient deficiencies), over nutrition (overweight and obesity), and consequent non-communicable diseases (diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and cancer).  While food environment includes food systems (land, production, processing, distribution, and food industry), food security (access, availability, utilisation and stability) and household (economic, education, family size, housing, water, energy, and sanitation). The research focus for the Chair is Food Environments, Nutrition and Health in the context of their influence and impact on the triple burden of malnutrition. The research will focus on investigation of key drivers of food choice and the impact these have on nutrition and health outcomes. Conclusive evidence is still lacking on how nutrition and health outcomes, such as coexistence of triple burden of diseases in same household, manifest. There is need to have a full understanding of the determinants of these phenomenon in order to develop programs that can impact the outcomes positively. This presentation will provide some contexts and areas for debate.
