Drie nagraadse studente van die Unit for Construction Materials (UCM) het onlangs die Sustainable Futures Conference - Architecture in the Global South (SFC2016) by gewoon, en het vier eweknie-geëvalueerde artikels aangebied. Die konferensie is gehou by die Verenigde Nasies se Hoofkantoor in Nairobi, Kenia. Hierdie konferensie was ook die finale byeenkoms van die JENGA Projek (Joint development of courses for ENerGy-efficient and sustainable housing in Africa), waarvan die UCM 'n aktiewe vennoot is sedert sy ontstaan in Oktober 2013.

PhD kandidaat, Peter Mbewe, het twee artikels getiteld 'Environmental Sustainability Evaluation of Low-Cost Buildings: The Case of Buildings under the JENGA Project' en 'Evaluation of Materials Laboratory Capacity for Promotion of Design-Build Teaching Approach in Architectural Courses' aangebied. Meesters studente, Joachim Louw en Leo Pike, het elk 'n artikel aangebied, getiteld 'Mechanical Properties of Alkali Activated Materials for Construction' en 'Processing Bagasse Ash for the South African Cement Industry', onderskeidelik. Al vier artikels is goed ontvang.
