Abstract:

The Department of Logistics at Stellenbosch University welcomes students, lecturers and other researchers in the field of transportation, logistics, operations research and data science to attend a presentation offered by Aspire Solutions on behalf of the City of Cape Town.

Aspire Solutions is currently contracted by the City of Cape Town to house and manage the City’s urban mobility data. The purpose of the presentation is to showcase Aspire Solution’s data warehouse of the City’s urban mobility data for researchers to be aware of the available data and how to obtain the data for their future research.

Included in the data warehouse is, among other things:

• MyCiTi data: Vehicle GPS data; Incident data; Passenger tap data; Survey data.
• Golden Arrow Bus Services data: Tracking and camera data.
• PTRS data: Public transport operating license data.
• Automatic Traffic Signals data: Bluetooth, loop and radar sensor data.

Representing Aspire Solutions and presenting the presentation is Mike Steyn. Mike has over eighteen years of experience leading operational functions at Aspire Solutions, a specialist information technology company. In addition to his executive and team management roles, he has played a crucial part in large IT projects, specialising in system design, system architecture, database design, and data engineering. Prior to his IT career, Mike worked as a design and project management engineer in South Africa, Namibia, and England.
