The conference is over two days on 29 and 30 October, and the pre-conference workshops on 28 October. <br></p><p>The confirmed keynotes for the conference are <em>Dr Joy Mighty</em> (Carleton University in Ottawa) and <em>Prof Geo Quinot</em> (Stellenbosch University). <em>(Your) Teaching matters @ SU</em> is the overarching theme for this year's conference.</p><p>The abstract submission process for the conference is now open! Invitation to the online workshop: “Publishing in changing times” http://www.sun.ac.za/english/Lists/notices/DispForm.aspx?ID=1658Invitation to the online workshop: “Publishing in changing times” <p>​<br><br></p><p>Below an invitation to the online workshop “Publishing in changing times" as part of the regional Extended Degree Programme (EDP) initiatives hosted by the universities of Stellenbosch, the Western Cape, Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. <br></p><p><strong>WORKSHOP</strong>: Publishing in changing times</p><p><strong>Presenter</strong>: Prof Crain Soudien</p><p><strong>DATE AND TIME:  </strong>Tuesday 27 July 2021, 12:00-14:00</p><h3 style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Bio:</strong></h3><p style="text-align:justify;">Prof Crain Soudien specialises in Education and African Studies at the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa, and the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is an emeritus professor of Education and African Studies, the former chief executive officer of the Human Sciences Research Council, and holds an honorary appointment at Nelson Mandela University. He is also a former deputy vice-chancellor of transformation at UCT. This A-rated researcher has published extensively in the field of sociology, educational policy and change, comparative education, public history and popular culture. He has produced 220 articles, book chapters and book reviews, four books and six edited books. He is the chairperson of the Independent Examinations Board, former chairperson of the District Six Museum Foundation, and a former president of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies. He also chaired the ministerial committees of inquiry into transformation in higher education, and textbook evaluation. Prof Soudien is a fellow of the International Academy of Education and the African Academy of Science, a member of the South African Academy of Science, and a senior fellow of NORRAG, an associate programme of the Graduate Institute Geneva. </p><h3 style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Workshop description:</strong></h3><p style="text-align:justify;">This workshop invites researchers across institutions to rethink educational inquiry in present-day South Africa. Prof Soudien will be sharing unique insight into the world of publication, both as an education specialist based at the School of Education at UCT, and through the central role he played at the Human Sciences Research Council. The interactive session will draw on four specific writing projects as cases to generate discussion and practical considerations around research writing, critical reviewing and other issues. TAU Fellowship Programme 2022-2023http://www.sun.ac.za/english/Lists/notices/DispForm.aspx?ID=1696TAU Fellowship Programme 2022-2023<p style="text-align:justify;">The TAU (Teaching Advancement at University) Fellowship Programme is a nation-wide intervention that was initiated in 2015. It is aimed at advancing teaching quality and the professionalisation of teaching and learning in the public higher education sphere. <br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The TAU Programme involves the professional development of a cohort of mid- to senior level academic staff from varying disciplines at all South African public universities, by means of a combined residential and distance learning approach. Participants, who are disciplinary specialists, are familiarised with developments relating to teaching and learning in higher education, introduced to Scholarship of Teaching and Learning research, and positioned as change agents at their institutions. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">The next TAU programme – TAU 4 – will be offered over 18 months (July 2022 to December 2023). Participants will work on an educational project situated in their own environment as well as on a group project. They will build partnerships with colleagues from other institutions. On conclusion of the programme, they will be equipped to lead change processes relating to teaching and learning at their home institutions.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">On the first TAU programme (2015-2016) Stellenbosch University (SU) was represented by Prof. Elmarie Costandius and Prof. Geo Quinot. The SU academics on TAU 2 (2018-2019) were Prof. Ian Nell and Dr Berna Gerber. For TAU 3 (2021-2022) SU is privileged to have three academics on the programme: Prof. Faadiel Essop, Prof. Ashraf Kagee and Dr Marianne McKay.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Nominations for the fourth cohort of the TAU Fellowships Programme are currently awaited. Everything students need to know about SU and their faculty is just a few clicks away! Videos of students sharing ways to cope at university, a virtual campus tour, and info on available support are easily accessible.
