The Unit for Research on Health and Society (RHS)

The principal aim of the RHS is to do research on community, social, behavioural and human aspects of health towards improving the health status of all South Africans and contributing to knowledge and the understanding of public health and social development problems internationally.

 

The Centre for Evidence-based Health Care (CEBHC)

The aims of the CEBHC are threefold. Firstly, it aims to develop, teach and promote EBHC at undergraduate and postgraduate levels of all healthcare professionals. Secondly, it aims to provide EBHC support and resources to healthcare professionals to help maintain the highest standards of healthcare practice. Thirdly, it aims to enhance the use of best evidence by government, non-governmental organizations and the private sector in healthcare policy and practices.

 

The Division of Family Medicine and Primary Care

The Division of Family Medicine is the division responsible for the holistic medical care of individuals within the context of their families and the community. The division puts emphasis on a patient-centred approach to primary care in its teaching, based on a firm foundation of biomedical science and clinical skills.

The research activities of the division focus on the development of quality primary care within a district health system, and to develop innovative teaching methods in the health sciences.


The Centre for Medical Ethics and Law​

The Centre for Med​ical Ethics and Law engages in undergraduate bioethics teaching, postgraduate bioethics teaching, empirical research into bioethical issues and consultancy service to surrounding hospitals.​
