62nd Annual Academic Day – 29 August 2018


AAD Information


The Annual Academic Day takes place on 29 August 2018 this year. You are invited to present the results of your research at this forum as an oral presentation, a poster, or a scientific exhibition. Abstracts must be submitted electronically, and the deadline is 8 June 2018​​. Please note that there will be NO extension of the deadline.

Kindly ensure that you have obtained the necessary ethics approval for your research.



The following parallel sessions will be presented on Wednesday, 29 August 2018​: 

  1. Infectious Diseases
  2. Non-communicable Diseases
  3. Mental Health and Neurosciences
  4. Violence, Injuries, Trauma and Rehabilitation
  5. Maternal and Child Health
  6. Health Systems Strengthening, and
  7. Perioperative Sciences


Poster session and Scientific exhibitions

Poster sessions will also fall within the seven themes outlined above.  



 A presentation refers to the oral presentation of research results by means of slides (PowerPoint).  Each speaker has 10 minutes for the presentation and 5 minutes for questions from the audience.

 A poster is a concise presentation of research results by means of written statements, photographs, graphics and or tables. The size of the poster must not exceed 100cm in height and 90cm in width and must be portrait orientated.  (No provision will be made for posters in landscape orientation.)

scientific exhibition portrays a research-and-educational coupled concept by means of three-dimensional objects or dynamic audiovisual material, and is not necessarily manned.  (Own audiovisual equipment must be provided.)
