​​​​​​​Department of Exercise, Sport and Lifestyle Medicine​

The Department of Exercise, Sport and Lifestyle Medicine has its origin in the amalgamation of the divisions of Movement Science and Exercise Therapy (MSET), Sport Science (SS) and Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM).
The Department offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the three divisions, namely:

  • BSc in Sport Science
  • BSc Honours in Performance Sport
  • BSc Honours in Biokinetics
  • BSc Honours in Kinderkinetics
  • MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine
  • MSc in Sport Science
  • PhD in Sport Science
Research is a core theme across the Department, with a focus on Clinical Movement Science, Paediatric Movement Science, Sport and Exercise Science, Injury and Illness Surveillance, Exercise and Lifestyle for the Prevention and Management of Chronic Disease, and Growth and Maturation in Youth Sport, Health Promotion, Athletic Performance, Injury Prevention and Psychological Wellbeing.

The Department provides clinical services to the public through its Biokinetics and Kinderkinetics Practices, the ISEM Living Laboratory, the Exercise Physiology Lab, the ISEM Sports Injury Clinic, and social impact initiatives within the greater Stellenbosch community.
