Die PRONTAK-kortkursus is ʼn gratis jaarlikse aanbod aan pas aangestelde dosente aan die Universiteit Stellenbosch (US). Dit bied ʼn ruimte vir deelnemers uit verskillende fakulteite om oor hulle onderrig-, leer- en assesseringspraktyke te besin in die lig van die hedendaagse denke oor hoër onderwys. Die kursus dek praktiese onderrigstrategieë, en nasionale en institusionele beleidsraamwerke, en moedig deelnemers aan om hierdie insigte betekenisvol binne hulle vakgebiede toe te pas. Die ontsnapkamer was daarop gemik om studentebetrokkenheid en ‑kreatiwiteit te verbeter deur hulle uit te nooi om oop digitiale take te navigeer en betekenis binne speelse, dog professioneel-gegronde scenario's te ko-konstrueer. Dit het egter vinnig ontwikkel tot ʼn kragtige pedagogiese provokasie wat die produktiewe spanning van onsekerheid, moed en medewerking in hoëronderwys-onderrig, -leer en -assessering uitgelig het. Hierdie ontwerp het die tradisionele pedagogiese gesag en assesseringsverwagtings gedestabiliseer, wat Barnett (2007) se oproep dat hoër onderwys studente vir die onbekende moet voorberei, herhaal het. Die ingryping het van studente vereis om dubbelsinnigheid te navigeer, kollektiewe besluite te neem en kreatief op onbekende uitdagings te reageer. Dit het ook assessering as leer aangekweek, deur besinning en transformasie bó korrekte antwoorde te prioritiseer, wat studente in staat stel om meer agentskap in hulle leer aan die dag te lê. Vir opvoeders bied dit ʼn provokasie om pedagogiese eksperimentering as ʼn vorm van ondersoek en moed te beskou en onsekerheid as vrugbare grond vir groei na te streef.</p><p><strong>Delecia Davids</strong> is ʼn dosent en vroeëloopbaan-akademikus in die Fakulteit Opvoedkunde aan die Universiteit Stellenbosch. As ʼn Mandela Rhodes-beurshouer, het Delecia haar magister in onderwysbeleidstudies met ʼn tesis oor die agentskap en plek-gehegtheidspraktyke van studenteleiers verwerf. Op grond van sy ervaring in uiteenlopende rolle – van mentor vir hoërskoolleerders in hulpbronarm gemeenskappe tot leier in kardiometaboliese navorsing in Afrika – ontleed prof Essop die filosofie agter sy “pedagogie van betrokkenheid”.<br></div><div><br></div><div>As die ontvanger van die TAU-genootskapsprys vir 2024, is prof Essop ’n kampvegter vir onderwys wat uit méér as inhoudsaanbieding bestaan en ook kritiese denke, ’n maatskaplike bewussyn en ’n doelbesef by studente skep. In die seminaar bespreek hy sy innoverende interdissiplinêre inisiatiewe, waaronder samewerkings tussen mediese en kunsstudente, en sy werk aan die dekolonisering van mediese onderwys deur die module “Kenmerke van die Wetenskap”.<br></div><div><br></div><div>Vir hom is die wetenskap en die samelewing onlosmaaklik verbind en daarom nooi hy ons om nuut te dink oor opvoeders se rol in die ontwikkeling van graduandi wat nie net tegnies vaardig is nie, maar ook maatskaplik bewuste agente vir verandering kan wees. Hierdie seminaar bied insig in die toekoms van transformerende onderwys en moedig ons aan om ons onderrig, leer en betrokkenheid in die akademie uit ’n nuwe hoek te beskou.<br></div><div><br></div><h3>Biografie van spreker<br></h3><div></div><div><div>Prof Faadiel Essop is ’n professor en direkteur van die Sentrum vir Kardiometaboliese Navorsing in Afrika aan die Universiteit Stellenbosch se mediese fakulteit. Hy het sy studie tot op doktorale vlak aan die Universiteit van Kaapstad voltooi en daarna boonop ’n HonsBA in Arabiese Studie</div><div>aan die Universiteit van Wes-Kaapland verwerf. Hy het die Chevening-genootskap ontvang (Leeds, Verenigde Koninkryk) en was ook ’n Fulbright-genoot by die Universiteit van Texas Gesondheidswetenskapsentrum in Houston. Prof Essop beskik oor ’n gradering van die Nasionale Navorsingstigting en is ’n internasionaal gerekende navorser wat die uitwerking van chroniese stres op menslike gesondheid bestudeer. Hy het die Universiteit Stellenbosch se Toekenning vir Uitnemende Onderrig twee maal ontvang, en hy is ’n genoot in die TAU-program vir die bevordering van universiteitsonderrig. Hy het voorheen as president van sowel die Fisiologievereniging van Suider-Afrika (PSSA) as die Afrikavereniging van Fisiologiese Wetenskappe gedien, en is ’n voormalige voorsitter van die navorsingsadvieskomitee van die Hart- en Beroertestigting van Suid-Afrika. Prof Essop dien tans as ’n verkose raadslid van die Internasionale Unie van Fisiologiese Wetenskappe. Hy is ook ’n genoot van die Amerikaanse Fisiologievereniging en het die PSSA se prestigeryke toekenning vir lewenslange loopbaanprestasie in navorsing ontvang. Prof. Lange is sedert 1998 betrokke by die ontwikkeling en implementering van wetenskap- en tegnologie- sowel as hoër onderwysbeleid in Suid-Afrika. Haar navorsingsbelangstellings fokus op die filosofie en politiek van hoër onderwys.
