Welcome to the Stellenbosch University Reproductive Research Group (SURRG). This research programme is based in the Division of Medical Physiology of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

SURRG's vision is to be innovative leaders focussing on discovery and excellence in the field of reproduction through technological advancement. Our mission is to perform cutting-edge research into male gamete function and reproductive disorders, as well as training of world class scientists in order to advance the understanding of human reproduction.

Since its inception in 1997, under the leadership of Prof Stefan du Plessis, the group has delivered numerous postgraduate students, hosted several International research interns and published a number of pioneering manuscripts in leading scientific journals. Research findings are also regularly disseminated at local and international conferences for which team members often receive accolades.

The group's current research predominantly focuses on factors affecting the function of spermatozoa thereby emphasizing the quest to improve male fertility. For any enquiries about our group, our research, postgraduate or post-doc opportunities, or collaboration initiatives, please contact Dr Bongekile SKOSANA (e-mail: bts@sun.ac.za)
