About the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences

Stellenbosch University's (SU) Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) was established in 1956. From humble beginnings on the premises of the Karl Bremer Hospital in the Western Cape (South Africa) it has grown into an institution renowned for producing quality health professionals and innovative research which addresses some of society's most pressing needs. These successes are built on the visionary leadership, dedication and hard work of many individuals over a number of decades and, through its vision of advancing health and equality in South Africa and beyond, has developed into one of the leading medicine and health sciences faculties in Africa.
