Prof. Susan van Schalkwyk, director of the CHPE, delivered her inaugural address, titled: "On borders, boundaries and being a chameleon​: metaphors for reframing the academic project". This was a ground breaking moment for both the CHPE and the FMHS as Prof van Schalkwyk is the first Full Professor of Health Professions Education in South Africa.​
