Prof Lochner is Co-director of the Medical Research Council (MRC) Unit on Anxiety and Stress Disorders at the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Stellenbosch. She is a full-time researcher, with clinical, genetics, and brain imaging research on obsessive-compulsive disorder and related conditions such as hair-pulling disorder and skin-picking disorder as a priority. Other areas of interest include the anxiety disorders such as social anxiety disorder and panic disorder. She continues with a part-time private practice to keep in touch with clinical work, particularly in the field of cognitive behavioural therapy for patients with anxiety disorders.
