Safety

The safety of students and staff of Stellenbosch University (SU) always enjoys the highest priority. SU provides these guidelines to assist students, but it is the responsibility of every student to ensure that the safety measures and guidelines are strictly adhered to. Attached are guidelines that have been compiled by the Undergraduate Education Committee in consultation with the University's Legal Services.  To ensure that the guidelines are acceptable and relevant in the community, research was conducted in all the areas where our students/staff are involved in community service.  The recommendations made by the communities themselves have been incorporated into these guidelines.

Each student is responsible for obtaining their own personal insurance cover, which includes, amongst others: personal accident and medical cover, cover for damage to or loss of personal possessions/property, including cover for loss, damage, injury or death arising from the use of any own motor vehicle used for training, clinical work, community service or official purposes, and cover for personal legal liability arising from the injury or death of another person or damage to or loss of personal possessions/property of another person.

Should a student be negligent during training, clinical work and/or service in the community, she/he will be liable for (and should therefore insure against) consequences such as the injury or death of another person, or damage to or loss of personal possessions/property of another person.
