Dr Lorrimer Esselaar

BSc (UCT), MB ChB (UCT), MMed (Ophth) (Stell)

Dr Lorrimer Esselaar studied at UCT and the University of Stellenbosch, after which he worked at Tygerberg Hospital as a consultant for a number of years, holding positions including Senior Specialist, Senior Lecturer, and Head of the Medical Retinal Unit,      and Acting Head of Department.

He spent 3 years working in the Far East as Head of Department at the private Royal Hospital of the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam before relocating to the United Kingdom where he trained as a refractive surgeon, performing over 40,000 laser refractive procedures in the following 7 years.

Dr Esselaar has retired from clinical ophthalmology, but is actively involved in the University of Stellenbosch undergraduate ophthalmology teaching program.
