Dr Ari Ziskind

Part-time Consultant: Retina

Dr Ari Ziskind grew up in Benoni, Gauteng and first studied Light Current Electrical Engineering, and Bio-Engineering, before changing careers and studying medicine at Wits University. He completed his internship at Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg and went into private practise as a GP in Benoni for 8 years, before relocating to Cape Town to specialise in Ophthalmology at Groote Schuur Hospital. He became a Fellow of the College of Ophthalmologists of South Africa in 1991 and since then practised as an Ophthalmologist at Tygerberg Academic Hospital and the Stellenbosch University Faculty of Health Sciences. Dr Ziskind was Deputy Head of the Ophthalmology Department and was responsible for the Retina Unit in the Department until his retirement from full time practise in August 2014. He is especially interested in Medical Retinal conditions and remains on the staff of the Ophthalmology Department at Tygerberg Academic Hospital and the Stellenbosch University Faculty of Health Sciences as a part-time Consultant.
