Postgraduate Diploma in Medicines Development
In order to accommodate the need for standardised and quality training of specialists in pharmaceutical medicine/medicines development, the Clinical Pharmacology Division, together with Tiervlei Trial Centre (TTC), launched a fully accredited two-year, part-time postgraduate diploma in pharmaceutical medicine in 2010. The programme consists of 8 contact sessions as outlined in the programme brochure, and includes regular student assignments and assessments, and the final examination. The 6 individual modules of the programme are also offered as separate short courses.
The programme syllabus is aligned with the syllabus of the EU IMI initiative PharmaTrain. We are a member of the PharmaTrain Federation and received recognition as Centre of Excellence by this organization in 2014, as first course provider outside Europe. Applicants with a medical, dental or pharmacy degree can be admitted to the program on the basis of the degree, while those with a nursing, biomedical or other relevant science degree must have two years of experience in pharmaceutical medicine before enrolment.
