The ACS aims to contribute to the development of the African continent and its people by developing new and emerging scholars in Africa. It does this by connecting scholars globally and creating opportunities for research and Higher Education teaching and learning development.
The Centre works closely with the Centre for Collaboration in Africa (CCA) to identify partners and opportunities. It provides high-quality, affordable, competency-based education that enhances transdisciplinary pre-doctoral through to post-doctoral scholarship and career development. This is achieved through its African Doctoral Academy (ADA) Doctoral Schools focusing on research design and methodology and academic preparedness presented a number of times annually, since 2009. More recent programmes include its Joint Research Schools with African partners and an Emerging Scholars Initiative (ESI) targeted at doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers, early career researchers and supervisors in nine African countries.
The Centre is also home to the
Stellenbosch University Unit for International Credentialing.
The African Doctoral Academy (ADA), housed within the Africa Centre for Scholarship (ACS) serves to coordinate and strengthen excellence in doctoral education at Stellenbosch University (SU) and across the African continent.
The Emerging Scholars Initiative is a three-year multi-million Rand collaborative project within the Joint Schools Programme that comprises 12 Joint Schools at selected Stellenbosch University's (SU) partner universities in Africa.
The Joint Schools in Africa Programme focuses on the development of the production of research and knowledge which feeds into Africa’s socioeconomic environments. Aimed at post-doctoral and early career researchers, SU and hosting African staff offers various courses.
The Stellenbosch University Unit for International Credentialling (SU-UIC) supports the evaluation and quality assurance of foreign and international qualifications to enable access of eligible applicants to quality higher education institutions, including Stellenbosch University.
