The Centre for Collaboration in Africa (CCA) leverages bilateral agreements and mobility programmes for staff, postdoctoral fellows and students to nurture relationships with institutions in other African countries. It also supports themed research networks so as to broaden the reach of SU's research, advance the growth of its scholars, and further the University's African network.
Included in the scope of the CCA's work are:
- creating an enabling environment for partnership development and support in Africa through initiatives such as the SU Africa Platform;
- raising awareness of opportunities in other African countries among staff and students on all SU's campuses;
- administering postgraduate scholarship opportunities as well as the Africa Collaboration Grant to support SU mobility activities with partners elsewhere in Africa;
- supporting both general and faculty-based multilateral networks in Africa, including SARUA, ARUA, PANGeA (Arts and Social Sciences), RUFORUM (AgriSciences) and ANIE (Science);
- supporting the implementation of INTERINFO, an integrated internationalisation information system;
- serving as the secretariat for ARUA-related activities, the Periperi U Network for Disaster Risk Reduction in Africa, and the AUDA-NEPAD Southern African Network of Water Centres of Excellence;
- supporting the AUDA-NEPAD Centre of Excellence in Science, Technology and Innovation, aimed at upscaling innovation across Africa; and
- supporting SU's SDG/2063 Impact Hub, which consolidates and tracks SU's contributions to the United Nations' sustainable development goals and the African Union's Agenda 2063.
