Feedback from SU Staff who have taken up mobility opportunities in the past:

Michelle Masango-Plato, Administrative Officer: Short Term Mobility, SU International

Participating in the staff exchange provided me with valuable insights into how the international relations office of our partner institution promotes and delivers services to their international students. Witnessing the growth of their relationships with other universities through visits, much like ours, underscored the significance of immersive experiences in understanding different cultures. From savoring local cuisine and navigating efficient transport systems to strolling through unfamiliar streets and observing the operations of other universities, there is truly no substitute for firsthand experience.

Mobility Programme: Erasmus + Staff Mobility programme with Sabanci University, Turkiye

Puseletso Motsomane, Research Grants Administrative Officer, SU Division For Research Development

Through this staff exchange programme, I realised that in so far as best practice are concerned, Stellenbosch University is not far from the benchmark. We are doing a lot of things quite well, and in some instances slightly better than our global north counterparts, so we are on the right track. On a personal level, one thing that stood out, is the Swedish concept of “Lagom” which means “not too much, not too little, just enough”. It is about striking a healthy balance in all that one does. I have heard many variations of this concept before the trip to Lund, but I am keener than ever before, to implement a sense of balance in my life moving forward. I have formed new relationships with an amazing group of people, I would have otherwise never met were it not for the programme.

Personally, this SUI experience has been a journey of rediscovery and re-energization. Personal development is important in how it positively impacts one's professional journey. That is why my exposure to diverse cultures and perspectives has rejuvenated my spirit, motivating me to contribute my best to the SU community. The collaborative nature of this experience has brought me closer to my colleagues and introduced me to new friends around the world. The sense of friendship and collective purpose has changed how I view teamwork and collaboration, fostering a culture of mutual support and shared success.
