Regional Projects
Stellenbosch University Food Security Initiative: A Community-based Nutrition Security Project
In 2007 the new Rector and vice-chancellor of Stellenbosch University articulated his vision of a 'pedagogy of hope' and a new positioning of the University. This vision has led to the Overarching Strategic Plan (OSP) which includes a Food Security Initiative (FSI) funded by the University Council. The Division of Human Nutrition aims to participate in this Initiative by working collaboratively with a community on a comprehensive project to improve food security, nutrition and quality of life. This project is known as the Community-based Nutrition Security Project (CNSP) and will be based on a thorough analysis of the nutrition security status of the selected community, using a participatory planning and implementation process. Environmental and social sustainability and working with other sectors will be guiding principles of the project.
