Teaching sites - Stellenbosch Hospital
Stellenbosch sub-district forms part of the Cape Winelands district (CWD), Western Cape Province. Stellenbosch district hospital (85 beds) refers to Paarl Regional hospital. The sub district also includes Cloetesville CDC and 9 PHC Clinics, as well as access to community based services, inclusive of an active and supportive Intermediate Care Facility and team of community care workers. This sub district forms part of the CWD training complex. Stellenbosch University undergraduate medical students in their clinical years rotate at the hospitals and clinics in the sub-district.
There are two Family Physician registrar posts in the sub district who will be appointed for the whole sub district and will deliver clinical services (including after-hours emergency cover) at the district hospital, as well as at some of the PHC clinics (on a "adopt-a-clinic" basis for four years).
The registrar forms part of a dynamic clinical team - consisting at present of 9 MOs, 2 Family Medicine registrars and 2 Community Service MOs who serve at the hospital and PHC facilities; and 1 Family Physician for the sub-district, as well as sessional doctors & GPs. The scope of clinical services represent the full mix at district hospital level: from outpatients, ward rounds and casualty cover, to emergency care, anesthesia, district hospital surgical procedures. Regular clinical support and training is provided from the specialist departments at Paarl regional hospital. Opportunities for in-service training and continuous professional development are ample.
