Rotations

The majority of time, the registrars spend at either Swartland Hospital where most skills required for the level of a family physician are provided. The exposure to specialist departments in Paarl Regional Hospital is dependent on previous experience and personalised learning plans and interests. Registrars at present have rotated through Paarl Regional Hospital: Paediatrics, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Anaesthetics and Obstetrics/Gynaecology.

In our complex, all registrars have "adopted" a clinic, where they consult one day a week.

Local academic programme

We also have a undergraduate program for the middle and late phase medical students. While at the Regional Hospital the registrars work under the supervision of the relevant specialist. At the District Hospital the registrar will work under the supervision of a Family Physician. The academic programme is co-ordinated by Dr Gavin Hendricks who is the Training Complex Co-ordinator.
