Consultant Intensivist
in the Paediatric Intensive Care
Unit (PICU) at Tygerberg Hospital, Cape Town. Dr.
Appel earned her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the University of
Cape Town. Specialist training was completed at Red Cross Hospital, Cape Town
and a year fellowship in Paediatric Critical Care was completed at
Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. Involved in the
daily management of the PICU and critically
ill paediatric patients with a range of
medical and surgical conditions. Senior lecturer in the Faculty of
Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University. Research interests
are hospital acquired infections and adverse events within the intensive care
environment. Dr. Appel has achieved a Postgraduate Diploma in Business
Management and Administration through Stellenbosch Business School.
