Respiratory Research Unit

Teaching

We are actively involved at all levels of teaching pulmonary and intensive care medicine. At undergraduate graduate level we mainly teach medical students of our own Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Stellenbosch University. Due to our strong international collaboration we also have an increasing number of overseas medical students who join us for electives usually of one to several months duration.

At postgraduate level we train our own registrars rotating through the division on a 6-monthly basis. Further, there is at least one training fellow in pulmonary subspecialty training at any given time.

At superspecialist level we usually have in between one and four international training/research fellows from various countries all over the world. They primarily join the division for its expertise in thoracic oncology, more specifically in Internventional Pulmonology, encompassing most known diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in Bronchoscopy and Thoracoscopy.

We also offer hands-on work shops in Interventional Pulmonology, including the various aspects of Thoracic Ultrasound
