Strengthening primary health care through primary care doctors and family physicians
The EuropeAid project, Strengthening primary health care through primary care doctors and family physicians, commenced on the 1st of March 2014.
The project's aim is to strengthen primary health care through primary care doctors and family physicians in South Africa over a period of 30 months. The project is funded by the European Union and led by Prof Bob Mash and his team at the Division of Family Medicine and Primary Care, Stellenbosch University. Dr Zelra Malan and Dr Klaus von Pressentin will be helping Professor Bob Mash to co-ordinate the project, which also includes all the Departments of Family Medicine and Primary Care in the country as well as the University of Ghent in Belgium and Royal College of General Practitioners in the UK.
The project received global attention during April 2015 as part of the EU Development Year 2015 initiative - please see the story of "Upgrading family doctors' skills in South Africa".
Professor Bob Mash presented an update on the project's progress at a Civil Society Organisations Seminar on 23 November 2015. The Seminar was hosted by the European Union and the National Department of Health at the Civitas building in Pretoria, South Africa. A PDF version of his presentation is available here.
On 2 March 2016, Zelra Malan and Klaus von Pressentin presented an overview of the progress made and future direction for the EuropeAid project as it turns the 2-year mark: please see PowerPoint presentation.
