Welcome to Stellenbosch University

Building science communication capacity in the SADC region and Africa

Since 2022, journalists from the SADC region and Africa, interested in science journalism and science communication, gather for a training workshop ahead of Science Forum South Africa, hosted by South Africa's Department of Science and Innovation at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Tshwane.

These training workshops offer a unique opportunity for journalists from the region to not only learn from the experts, but also to network and share the challenges they face in reporting on complex scientific issues facing the region.

Since the first workshop at Stellenbosch University in December 2022, this World Science Forum (WSF) legacy project is supported and strengthened by a growing number of partnerships:

  • Department of Science and Innovation (DSI)
  • Southern African Development Community (SADC)
  • UNESCO's regional office in Southern Africa (UNESCO-ROSA)
  • South Africa Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (NRF-SAASTA)
  • Stellenbosch University (SU)
  • Southern African Network of Water Centres of Excellence (SANWATCE)
  • South African Science Journalists Association (SASJA)
  • Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC)
  • Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf)

The third SADC Regional Science Journalism Training Workshop will take place on 3 December 2024 at the CSIR-ICC in Tshwane.
