Community Interaction

The Physics department prioritizes community interaction on different levels.  We consider it our duty to educate and inform the broader community on aspects relating Physics and new discoveries.  To this end the department engages the community with a number of different projects, aimed at specific groups.  These include the following:

  • Annual road trip by our post graduate students to schools in the Western Cape.
  • Physics department open day
  • Regular African Laser Centre student workshops/conferences
  • Participation as judges in the Eskom young scientist Expo
  • Our staff serve on numerous professional bodies and editorial boards
  • Regularly hosting schools in our undergraduate laboratories
These are but a few of the more regular activities that take place.  Our staff also regularly take part in radio and television interviews on topics that are of current interest.
