Welcome to Stellenbosch University

Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences 60 years

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) of Stellenbosch University (SU) celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2016. From humble beginnings on the premises of the Karl Bremer Hospital in 1956 it has grown into an institution renowned for producing quality health professionals and innovative research which addresses some of society's most pressing needs. These successes are built on the visionary leadership, dedication and hard work of many individuals over a number of decades.

Tygerberg is sometimes referred to as the 'Campus of Champions' because our staff and students excel at many activities ranging from academic to sport, arts and culture. We are also known as a community that cares about its members, as well as the broader society. For example, our unique FMHS Ithemba Bursary Fund provides bursaries to successful, but financially needy students who do not qualify for financial support from other sources (for more information visit www.sun.ac.za/FMHSfund).

We will continue striving to produce leaders and change agents who make a difference in South Africa and the world.
