Hermanus Hospital is located in the scenic town of Hermanus where the mountains meet the ocean! Hermanus is the centre of the Overstrand district and is a rural town but with enough luxuries and close enough to the city for those who need more. Other towns in the Overstrand district include Pringle Bay, Pearly Beach, Betties Bay, Kleinmond, Stanford, Gansbaai, Waenhuiskrans and Elim.
Currently Hermanus Hospital have 47 beds where generalist medicine is practiced which include a maternity, paediatric, women’s and men’s ward. We have a 24hr casualty catering for all emergencies and a theatre where a wide range of elective and emergency procedures are performed. We have an outpatient department with specialist clinics like a mental health, high risk antenatal, small surgical procedures clinic and a very busy ARV clinic. At the OPD we also have clinics visited by our outreach and support specialists coming from Worcester Hospital or the local specialists doing sessions. This includes a gynaecology, paediatric and orthopaedic clinic. We also do outreach to the primary health care clinics in the district on a weekly basis.
Our team of practicing doctors is supervised by a medical superintendent. The fulltime practicing doctors include a Family Physician, a Family Medicine Registrar, 4 MO’s, 3 COSMO’s and sessional GP’s. We share a wide range of skills and complement each other well, constantly getting the opportunity to learn more from each other.
We have a full team of auxillary services as support which includes a dietician, occupational therapist, clinical psychologist, physiotherapist and speech therapist.
Hermanus Hospital is currently being upgraded and enlarged with a resultant increase of 20 beds, separate wards for labour, paediatric and women patients. We are getting a new large, practical and up to date casualty and a whole new OPD building with offices for the auxillary services too. We are also getting an extra theatre. Hopefully we will be moving in by January next year.
