Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Metamorphic Petrology
Department of Earth Science, University of Stellenbosch, Stellenbosch 7600, South Africa
An opportunity for a postdoctoral research fellow interested in Archaean geodynamics and metamorphic studies is currently available at Stellenbosch University. The fellowship is available for a period of 2 years, with the value of the fellowship being R200 000 per annum, this amount will be tax-free.
The Research Project:
The successful candidate will investigate the metamorphic histories of the poly-metamorphic Limpopo Belt and the migmatites and eclogites from the north-eastern Borborema region of Brazil. Potential correlations between events in Limpopo and Borborema will be investigated, ultimately leading to a better understanding of the metamorphic histories and the geodynamic processes that drove metamorphism in both areas.
A Ph.D. in geology obtained within the past five years, with a strong background in metamorphic petrology and the study of anatectic processes. A strong record of publication in relevant international journals. The ability to conduct field work independently in both study areas which will require proficiency in English and Portuguese. Prior experience of research in either area will serve as a strong recommendation.
A covering letter and curriculum vitae, including all research outputs should be sent to Prof. Gary Stevens in the Department of Earth Science, Stellenbosch University by e-mail
before 31 March 2021.
