Specific Admission Requirements
60% average in an Honours in Drama (or an acceptable equivalent qualification approved by the Senate). Candidates will only be considered for this programme when an acceptable research proposal has been submitted to the Drama Department.
Programme Structure
Nature of the programme
Like the BA Hons in Drama and Theatre Studies, this programme focuses on the concept of performance, but at this level the emphasis shifts more strongly towards the application of, independent research and creative work linked to prior training. The programme has two options.
879:
Compulsory module
12817 – 871 (180 credits): Thesis (Drama and Theatre Studies)
Candidates who do not have an BA Hons from the Stellenbosch University's Department of Drama may be asked to complete and pass the following module:
10116 – 771 (20 credits): Theatre Research: An Introduction to Research Methodology
889:
Compulsory modules
10122 – 872 (90 credits) : Projects (Drama and Theatre Studies)
12817 – 872 (90 credits): Thesis (Drama and Theatre Studies)
Candidates who do not have an BA Hons from the Stellenbosch University's Department of Drama may be asked to complete and pass the following module:
10116 – 771 (20 credits): Theatre Research: An Introduction to Research Methodology
Please Note:
Admission is subject to approval of chosen projects by the Drama Department.
Projects must be relevant to the content of the thesis.
Assessment and Examination
Assessment
879: The full thesis is assessed by one internal examiners and one external examiner.
889: A system of continuous assessment by three internal examiners is used for the project work. The assessment may include an oral examination. The 90 credit thesis is assessed by one internal examiner and one external examiner.
