The department is excited to announce the appointment of Professor Tina Steiner as co-editor of the Eastern African Literary and Cultural Studies journal, alongside our ex-colleague Lynda Spencer (now at Rhodes), Godwin Siundu (who is an SU research fellow), Tom Odhiambo (Univeristy of Nairobi) and Dina Ligaga (Wits).

The journal has a close relationship with the East African conference series that the department has co-hosted over the years at the universities of Makerere, Nairobi, and Dar es Salaam, under the guidance of Professor Grace Musila.Professor Steiner's appointment, with Professor Louise Green's existing appointment as co-editor of the journal Social Dynamics, further serves to establish the profile of excellence in the departmental research focus areas of the English Department at Stellenbosch University

The department also wishes to congratulate recent MA graduate, Tembi Charles, on her selection to the Penn State University PhD programme, which was facilitatedbyProfessor Gabeba Baderoon, a Professor Extraordinaire  in the department.
