Stellenbosch University Staff Training Week 2024

Theme: Cultivating Global Excellence: Empowering Internationalisation Practitioners


​The program aims to empower internationalisation practitioners with the knowledge, skills, and networks necessary to excel in their roles and contribute to the advancement of global excellence in higher education.​

Potential outcomes for attending the programme are:

1. Increased Knowledge and Understanding: Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of internationalisation concepts, strategies, and best practices through informative sessions, workshops, and discussions. They will be equipped with knowledge about the role of internationalisation practitioners and the importance of intercultural competence and global mindset.

2.Enhanced Skills Development: Through interactive workshops and skill-building activities, participants will develop practical skills essential for effective internationalisation work. This includes intercultural competence, communication skills, and the ability to navigate diverse cultural contexts with sensitivity and respect.

3.Expanding Professional Networks: Participants will have opportunities to connect with colleagues and piers within the institution, fostering relationships that can support ongoing collaboration and knowledge sharing in the field of internationalisation and the broader higher education landscape.

4.Increased Awareness of Inclusive Practices: Sessions on inclusive practices for international student support services will raise awareness about the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the internationalisation process. Participants will gain insights into strategies and concrete projects for creating inclusive environments and supporting the diverse needs of international students.

5.Personal and Professional Reflection: The program will encourage participants to reflect on their personal and professional growth throughout the week. Through self-assessment and peer feedback, participants will identify areas of strength and areas for further development in their roles as internationalisation practitioners.​

  • Welcome Lunch & Introductions
  • Ice Breaker
  • Overview of SU and SUI
  • Campus Tour

Day 2        09:00 – 16:00

  • Introduction to Being an Internationalisation Practitioner
  • Skills Development: Intercultural Competence and Global Mindset Workshop

Day 3         14:00-16:00

Inclusive Practices for International Student Support Services

  • (Disability Unit, Centre for Student Life and Learning to speak on Leadership, diversity, and inclusion)
  • Visit to wine farm for wine tasting & light snack

Day 4         09:00 – 16:00

Building Professional Networks: Connecting with Colleagues in SU

  • (jobshadowing)​

Day 5         09:00 – 13:00

  • Reflection and Assessing Personal and Professional Progress (participant presentations)
  • Closing Ceremony & lunch: Celebration of Achievements and Certificates Distribution
