Individual & Group Sessions

Individual Psychotherapy

In individual therapy and counselling, you meet a specific psychologist regularly to discuss your concerns or problems. Depending on the nature of the problem or the issue that you report, different forms of therapy can be followed. During individual psychotherapy, you and your therapist work together on your concern or problem and try to find solutions. The duration of the therapy usually varies from a few weeks to a few months, depending on the nature of the problem. At the Unit for Psychotherapeutic and Support Services we focus on short-term therapy (6 sessions maximum) and crisis management.

Group Psychotherapy

Some problems are better managed in a group setting where you can have the support of others and can offer support to others who are experiencing similar problems. Annually, several therapeutic and support groups are hosted in Stellenbosch. These group sessions are presented by professional people and usually have a specific focus.

General support groups and various short-term groups are presented. For more information on these groups, contact Ms Laurinda Milford at laurinda@sun.ac.za or Angelique McConney at angelique@sun.ac.za or call: 021-808-4994
