The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences' (FMHS) Marketing and Communications Division launched a brand new marketing and communications content hub in a bid to provide comprehensive marketing support to FMHS staff and students.

The FMHS' strategic relations manager Ms Ronel Bester said the content hub is a significant highlight in the Faculty's marketing endeavours. “We believe this digital content hub will be of great value to the FMHS' 4 500 students and 1 500 staff members. Not only does it offer an intuitive suite of services across the marketing and communications spectrum, it also provides an overview of our most significant marketing and content assets. It is a valuable addition to our marketing efforts in that it also supports the work of the Faculty in an effective way."

The marketing and communications content hub offers staff and students, situated across the FMHS' 15 academic departments and 18 centres, bureaus and institutes, access to a multitude different marketing and communication mechanisms. It is the destination for marketing material and guidelines, including web hosting and development protocols (i.e. how to create and maintain your web page), using the Faculty's social media accounts, brand guidelines (i.e. using the Faculty and University logos on any material), information about getting news stories published and the Faculty's list of marketing service providers. In addition, users can download more than 50 photos representing a wide range of the Faculty's activities.

Mrs Florence de Vries, corporate communications and brand coordinator in the Marketing and Communications Division, led the 12-month long project that endeavours to equip academic and support staff as well as students to optimally market, promote and share their research, initiatives and events. “In an institution as old as ours, it is quite possible for marketing content to be everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Different people have stored different files and components in various formats and locations over the course of many years and this content hub presents a foray into the fully digital realm we find ourselves in, while ensuring that our staff and students are able to work with our Division as efficiently as possible."

The marketing and communications content hub also offers an extensive look into the FMHS' online and manual publication reach. Mrs Hermien Nel, digital communications coordinator in the Marketing and Communications Division, headed up the technical aspect of building the platform. “The content hub's statistics page offers a succinct overview of the Faculty's overall standing in the social, online and traditional media space, which is quite compelling. Users will be able to see the number of visitors and page views for each of our publications and platforms, including Vivus, Impromptu and the FMHS' annual publication, which we believe serves as further impetus for staff and students to contribute to the outstanding output of this Faculty in a positive way."

The creation of the content hub forms part of the FMHS' strategic vision to be the leading research-intensive health sciences faculty in and for Africa. “By creating this hub, we offer a destination to all our stakeholders that will help streamline and simplify their work both operationally and strategically," said Bester.
