Stellenbosch University is saddened by the loss of Struggle activist Ahmed Kathrada. The Kathrada Foundation confirmed his passing early this morning. Prof Wim De Villiers, SU Vice-Chancellor and Rector expressed his condolences to Kathrada’s family and loved ones saying South Africa has lost a great man. “Not only has he made a very big contribution to the democracy of our country, but he was also committed to justice, reconciliation and the betterment of the lives of all South Africans.” The Stellenbosch University Museum is hosting a mini-exhibition to commemorate Kathrada celebrating his last birthday at SU last year. This exhibition can be currently viewed at the museum. A condolences book is available at the museum to be signed by members of the public. “Hatred, revenge, bitterness - these are negative emotions. The person harbouring those emotions suffers more.” (Ahmed Kathrada)
