Two Matie netball players are on their way to Australia to represent South Africa at the Fast Five World Series netball tournament in Melbourne.

The tournament is taking place on 29 and 30 October and other participating countries are Australia, New Zealand, England, Malawi and Jamaica.

Juline Rossouw, Maties' captain in the Varsity Netball series, and Charmaine Baard joined the rest of the team over the weekend.

Both of them have already represented their country this year.

Rossouw was a member of the Proteas team that won the Diamond Challenge series between SA, Zimbabwe, Uganda and the SA President's team earlier this month, while Baard was a member of the SA U/21 team that played against Wales in a test series and participated in a qualifying round for the Netball World Youth Cup. South Africa won all its matches and qualified for next year's tournament.

In July, both of them travelled to Miami with the SA University team to compete in the World Universities Netball Competition. South Africa came home with the gold medal.

Rossouw said she is very excited about another opportunity to play in the green and gold.

"It's an absolute privilege and I'm very grateful. It's an amazing opportunity to grow and develop as a player."

Baard could hardly believe that this is happening.

"I'm going to compete against players I have admired for many years. I still can't get my head around it," she said.

They are both students in the Faculty of Education.
