Stellenbosch University's (SU) first MOOC (massive open online course) – a four-week course on 'Teaching for Change: An African Philosophical Approach', is due to start on Monday (19 September).
"The course aims to initiate you into understandings of African philosophy of education, more specifically, teaching and learning on the African continent," said Prof Yusef Waghid of the Faculty of Education.
Almost 2 000 people have already registered for the course, with many more registrations expected during its duration, said Dr Antoinette van der Merwe, Senior Director: Learning and Teaching Enhancement at SU. The largest percentage of current registered learners (23%) are from the United Kingdom, followed by South Africans (16%).
The course is presented in partnership with FutureLearn, a platform for MOOCs based in the UK, with more than 2 million registered users. The course involves learners from across the globe interacting with one another and the experts that are leading the course.
