Vehicles are made available to staff and students for official use, such as for research, clinical rotations, sports and cultural activities. No private trips may be undertaken. Drivers must be in possession of a valid driver's license of at least one year old, which must be shown upon request.
Keys for booked vehicles may be collected at the booking office in Banghoek Road from Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 to 16:00. Access to the vehicle pool gates are obtained by first touching your staff/student card against the access control system and afterwards the rented vehicle's identity card.Drivers receive a trip card, which must be completed in full in the case of each vehicle rented. Together with this they receive a key which must be handed in at the reservation office after the vehicle has been used. If after hours, place the keys in t
he slot in the wall of the building on the left-hand side just outside the exit gate. It is compulsory to lock the vehicle as well as to close the safety lock. Reservation times and rules must be complied with strictly. Cancellations must be done 24 hours prior to departure in order to avoid a fine.
Any damage to a vehicle must be reported to the reservation office before departure and recorded on the trip card under complaints/defects. If after hours, record the damage on the trip card and place it in the slot in the wall of the building on the left-hand side just outside the exit gate. - Students will be assisted with transport by the Tygerberg campus vehicle pool.
- Should a student experience transport difficulties, he or she should contact their department coordinator timeously, in order for transport to be arranged if available.
- Students are responsible for any problems with their own vehicles. Should students utilize their own vehicles for clinical work, a travel claim may be submitted to the department coordinator.
- The vehicle pool should be contacted with any vehicle related problems.
- Students must have a valid driver's licence for a period of 1 year prior to using SU pool vehicles.
- The vehicles are booked with vehicle pool by your department.
Should students be involved in an accident with a SU car and negligence on the part of the student can be proven, the student will be held liable for payment of the insurance excess of R2500.00. Kindly peruse all SU vehicle car policies which are in the black file containing the logbook and car keys. The log book must be completed and a vehicle check must be undertaken at the start of the trip. Vehicle damages if any, must be reported at the start of the trip.
The student will also be held liable for any damages to the car or property if found negligent.

Worcester Campus Fleet is the newest addition to our distributed platform. SUNLOC provides Transport for Worcester Campus (Ukwanda Centre for Rural Health RCS) in an effort to support students studying on a more rural platform.

|Trip card ||Please read all the instructions on the trip card which you have received with the Fleet Vehicle’s keys. |
|Make sure that you know of all scratches, bumps and defects, and also where the emergency equipment (such as the jack and the spare wheel) is kept. |
Before return, fill up 100% with petrol (or Diesel) at any petrol station and pay with the Fleet Vehicle’s own petrol card (in the plastic holder on the key-ring).
On your return, if the fuel tank is less than half full, then fill it up (to capacity).
|Warning lights ||When any of the Fleet Vehicle’s warning lights are on, then do not drive further under any circumstances. |
|Report all accidents to the SA Police (and to US Protection Services if the accident has occurred in the Stellenbosch area). Call the police, but do not admit liability under any circumstances (See back for “Do’s and Don’ts in Case of an Accident”). Phone G.P. Returning the Fleet Vehicle
It is important that the Fleet vehicle and keys are returned at the appointed time for the next client’s use.
- Park the Fleet Vehicle in the Vehicle Park, Banghoek Road.
- Lock the Fleet Vehicle and make sure that all lights are switched off.
- Return the keys to the US Vehicle Fleet directly after use.
Before using their own vehicles, students must first determine if the vehicle pool does not have an available vehicle. Should no vehicle be available, students may use their own vehicles. An application form must subsequently be completed for the reimbursement of travelling fees, which must be submitted to the SUNLOC offices.Application forms for reimbursement can be downloaded from the links provided on the Home Page.
