Council has oversight responsibility over academic and operational issues, as well as institutional policy and strategy.

SU registrar Dr Ronel Retief thanked members of the Donors Electoral College who voted in the election. Conradie was one of two candidates nominated for election. “We wish her the best for her four-year term on Council," Retief said.

Conradie, a SU alumna, believes universities have a crucial role to play in helping communities prioritise both profit and purpose. Her strong global network and recognition as a pioneer in the passive investment industry will add considerable value to Council.

“I am excited for the opportunity to collaborate with my fellow Council members, as we work towards making a meaningful contribution to the future of our University. I believe my experience in the financial services industry and at Satrix positions me well to contribute to Council on matters such as democratising investments, sustainability, building an inclusive culture and leveraging diversity to navigate challenging times," said Conradie.

Nicky Newton-King, Acting Chair of Council commented that “Helena has been a pioneer in so many aspects of her business career.  I am so pleased that someone of Helena's calibre is therefore able to join Council at the very time that SU is focussed on its journey to be a forward-orientated, research intensive, innovative and inclusive university."

Conradie is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charter holder and holds an MSc degree in Applied Mathematics (cum laude) from SU. She serves on the boards of Satrix, Strate and Women in ETF (Exchange-traded Funds) for the Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) region. She is also a member of the FTSE/JSE Advisory Committee and JSE Buy Side Council.
