The Education Student Committee (ESC) in collaboration with the Beyond Education team and Messiah Industries handed out masks and hand sanitisers at five local primary schools to celebrate Mandela Day. The schools included Kayamandi Primary, Rietenbosch Primary, Matroos Holy Trinity R.K Primary, Elnor Primary as well as C.L Wilmot Primary.

The need for these items was identified as these schools often struggle to provide learners and teachers with all their basic needs. This initiative aimed to equip schools with the new basic needs by supplying masks and hand sanitisers to help fight the spread of Covid-19.

According to Lindie Fortuin, a teacher at Holy Trinity R.K Primary in Elsies River, this donation is an incredible contribution and is greatly appreciated. “Our learners received the masks with gratitude. It was handed out to learners who are most in need. The enthusiasm of the Matie students was gratifying and we appreciate the fact that our school was on their hearts for the Mandela day celebrations. We as a school community hope the ESC's passion for goodwill continues to burn strongly.
