Launching Vision 2040 and Strategic Framework 2019-2024 Rector and Vice-Chancellor Prof Wim de Villiers outlined a bold new vision for Stellenbosch University, one where students would be offered a transformative experience at an agile, adaptive and responsive institution. It further focuses on skills needed in an ever-changing world; the very skills nurtured through dialogue and discussion in the Siyakhula Transformation Leadership and Competencies programme.

Offered by the Transformation Office, in partnership with the Equality Unit, the Disability Unit and Human Resources, the programme is designed around Socio Cultural Awareness, Leadership and Intergroup Engagement, as well as Social Innovation. Workshops on offer accommodate all schedules and include a two-hour dialogue session, a one-day session as well as a full three-day workshop. Themes include the university's vision and transformation, decolonization, and conflict and mediation management. Content can also be tailored to each division's specific needs or interests.

Siyakhula means “we grow" and is aimed at all staff members; a long-time staff member commenting on her experience at a training session: “I found it very informative. The non-threatening manner in which the workshop was facilitated allowed for a free flow of ideas which I found very refreshing. I have worked for SU for 17 years and this workshop was without a doubt the most worthwhile training that I have attended during this time and is long overdue. It is a real shame that the university has waited so long before offering its staff such a developmental opportunity. It has opened my mind to considering new ways of doing things".

The next three-day workshop is scheduled for 7-9 November 2018 and can be booked via Sun-e-HR, while the shorter sessions can be scheduled according to your division's availability.  For more information please contact Monica du Toit at mdt2@sun.ac.za or Grizelda Adams at grizeldaa@sun.ac.za
