This year marks the 10 year celebration of the Stellenbosch Thuthuka Programme. Stellenbosch Thuthuka is a flagship programme in the School of Accountancy at Stellenbosch University (SU) aimed at achieving transformation in the chartered accountancy profession.

The Stellenbosch Thuthuka Programme at the School of Accountancy hosted a number of celebration events to mark the occasion. On Thursday, 12 October 2017, we hosted one such event, the donor appreciation event to acknowledge the invaluable financial and non-financial support and commitment received from the donor firms, South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), various SU administrative departments, stakeholders and friends of the programme.

The Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Minister Albert Fritz, delivered the keynote address. He was very enthusiastic about how Thuthuka gives disenfranchised youth the means to combat the cycle of poverty through education. Especially for children who have the aptitude but not the financial means to continue beyond matric due to their marginalised position.

Prof. Pieter von Wielligh, Acting Director reflected on the past 10 years and Lungelo Ngobese, chair of the Stellenbosch Thuthuka Society, gave a vote of appreciation in which he acknowledged the donors and stakeholders on behalf the Thuthukans whose lives have been changed “by the generous hands represented here today."  The event was a great success!
