As part of its 60th anniversary celebrations, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is introducing 60 future healthcare professionals who are currently in their first year. Meet Thiven Padayachy.
If he had R5 million to spend, Thiven Padayachy would invest in a Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet. For some this might seem like a canny business investment, but for Padayachy it will also support his self-confessed worst habit: eating too much fast food.
But apart from enjoying KFC’s dunked wings Padayachy, a first year MB,ChB student at the University of Stellenbosch, also has many useful habits.
"Don’t procrastinate and put off what you can do now," he advises students who struggle with time management. He puts action to these words by studying an average of six hours a day.
With this amount of dedication it’s no wonder that Padayachy was named top matriculant in the Northern Cape in 2015, achieving seven distinctions.
Though he also fancies a career as an astronaut, he’s excited about his chosen degree. “I have a keen interest in health and having witnessed too many medical complications among close family members, I decided to pursue this degree."
