The Division for Research Development at Stellenbosch University (SU) launched an updated brochure on SU's research chairs and centres of excellence on Tuesday (28 June 2016).

The aim of this brochure is to provide more information on the focus areas and activities of the different research chairs and centres of excellence. This is the first the brochure has been updated because of the new research chairs and centres of excellence awarded to SU.

The University currently hosts 37 research chairs, of which 24 are within the South African Research Chair Initiative (SARChI), funded by the Department of Science and Technology, through the National Research Foundation. It also boasts seven centres of excellence.

"Our research chairs and centres of excellence give us the opportunity to vigorously pursue research excellence and to develop local and global capacity even further. It allows for the development of SU as a leader on the African continent and as a preferred knowledge partner," explains Maryke Hunter-Hüsselmann, Manager: Research Information and Strategy at SU.

Hunter-Hüsselmann says the research chairs and centres of excellence also enable researchers to collaborate across disciplines and institutions on long-term projects by using existing capacity and resources.
