The Department of Afrikaans and Dutch presented copies of the new book Fritz Ponelis en die Afrikaanse taalwetenskap to Prof Fritz Ponelis's widow, Issie, and the Dean: Arts and Social Sciences, Prof Tony Leysens, on Thursday 17 August 2023.
The book, edited by Prof Ilse Feinauer and Prof Rufus Gouws, was commissioned to celebrate Prof Ponelis's impact on Afrikaans linguistics and appeared just in time for the 81st celebration of his birthday.
There are academic contributions by Rufus Gouws and Ilse Feinauer, Herman Beyer, Nerina Bosman, Timothy Colleman, C. Jac Conradie, Frank Hendricks, Kate Huddlestone, Ernst Kotzé, Gerda Odendaal, Marcelyn Oostendorp and Marius Swart, Elvis Saal, Piet Swanepoel, Bertus van Rooy, and Daan Wissing. The Festschrift opens with a poem by Marlene van Niekerk.
Anyone with an interest in Afrikaans linguistics should give this collection more than a passing glance.
