Gender and Corruption Symposium:

Bold, Beautiful and Brave!

Join us for a transformative exploration of the critical nexus between gender dynamics and corruption at the "Gender and Corruption Symposium: Bold, Beautiful and Brave!" This symposium is a pivotal platform aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5, which aims to end all forms of discrimination against women and girls, while also addressing the urgent need for effective anti-corruption strategies.

Understanding the Challenge:

SDG Goal 5 underscores the importance of granting women equal economic rights, including land ownership, financial resources, and leveraging technology for empowerment. However, these goals face formidable challenges due to geopolitical conflicts, uncertainties in global trade, climate events, and the disruptive effects of emerging technologies. Women, especially those in vulnerable situations, bear a disproportionate burden.

The Gender-Corruption Intersection:
Corruption, often overlooked through a gender lens, exacerbates existing inequalities and impedes women's full participation in social, economic, and political spheres. Gender stereotypes perpetuate unequal power dynamics, creating environments where corruption can thrive unchecked, hindering women's entrepreneurship, access to essential services, and exacerbating poverty and inequality.

Empowering Change with ACCERUS:
This symposium is organized by the Anti-Corruption Centre for Education and Research of Stellenbosch University (ACCERUS), affiliated with the School of Public Leadership under the auspices of Economic and Management Sciences Faculty. Led by Prof. Pregala Solosh Pillay, ACCERUS is a pioneer in anti-corruption education and training, uniquely positioned within the confines of Stellenbosch University. ACCERUS offers accredited courses designed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary for effective anti-corruption programs across various sectors. ACCERUS is nationally, regionally, and globally recognized, attracting a wide reach of postgraduate students.
